Identify the Mathematics Concept to be Taught and Learned

Identify what comes before, what comes after and what connects

Identify what local knowledge and previous experiences that students have had with the concept and draw students’ attention to it by using visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and tactile activities.

Match the concept from the students’ knowledge with appropriate multi-sensory experiences, materials and language so that representations can be created using these experiences.

Match the conceptual representations with formal symbols, signs and language.

Practise with students and make connections to other mathematics concepts and student experiences.

Assist students with applying knowledge to other areas and validating their knowledge.
